Aug. 30 Grand Opening Set for NE Rice Research and Extension Center

LITTLE ROCK — VIPs from the agriculture industry and academia will be cutting the ribbon for the Aug. 30 grand opening of the Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center.
Presentation of the colors will begin at 10:20 a.m. followed by the formal program at 10:30 a.m. The center, located at 15327 Arkansas Highway 1 in Harrisburg, held its first full field day on Aug. 8 with more than 250 people in attendance.
Tours will also be available for guests at the grand opening. Attendees may RSVP online.
“We are looking forward to showing this beautiful facility to the public — for whom it is built,” said Tim Burcham, director of the center. “We are very pleased to have our partners from agriculture, federal and state government and our University of Arkansas System here to help us make this a truly grand opening.”
The program will also include representatives from the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, naming sponsors, the U of Arkansas System and Board of Trustees, the U.S. House of Representatives, the Arkansas Legislature, and other agriculture industry supporters.

- 10:20 a.m. — Presentation of the colors by the Harrisburg JROTC Hornet Battalion
- 10:30 a.m. — Welcome and opening remarks by Jean-François Meullenet, director of the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station of the U of A System Division of Agriculture and Tim Burcham, director of the NE Rice Research and Extension Center
- 11:30 a.m. — Ribbon cutting
- 11:45 a.m. — Architects, builders, and naming sponsors comments
- 12:30 p.m. — Facility tours and refreshments
The center is operated by the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, the research arm of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.
