Hybrid rice varieties have become very popular among southern rice growers, in large part because of their reliably high yields. In this video, Ehsan Shakiba will give an update on hybrid rice breeding efforts at the Rice Research and Extension Center and the potential for the Division of Agriculture’s first hybrid rice release.
Shakiba is an assistant professor of rice breeding and genetics at the Rice Research and Extension Center in Stuttgart. His research efforts focus on developing good quality, high-yielding hybrid rice cultivars adapted to Arkansas and the rice growing regions in the southern U.S.
