Prescribed fire and vegetation control, when used correctly, can be beneficial for oak regeneration. At this stop on the virtual tour, Mike McGowan and Kyle Cunningham introduce methods for managing hardwood forests. This includes the use of prescribed fire and hack-and-squirt techniques to reduce the presence of unwanted species and provide more favorable growing conditions for oak species.
This talk is part of the 2020 Virtual Upland Hardwood Management Field Tour, with Kyle Cunningham, associate professor of forestry, and Mike McGowan, forester, both for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.
