Field Days Calendar Available; Season Kicks Off Feb. 27

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station’s 2020 field day series will kick off Feb. 27 with a pruning workshop at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture’s Fruit Research Station in Clarksville, Arkansas. 

Field days are traditionally an opportunity for the general public to visit various research facilities, allowing Division of Agriculture researchers and experts to showcase the latest in agricultural research experiments, findings and data.

The Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station is one third of the traditional land grant mission in Arkansas, conducting publicly funded research. The Cooperative Extension Service conducts outreach, bringing the fruits of those labors to Arkansans from all walks of life. Both the experiment station and the extension service are part of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. The Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences is the third part of the land grant mission.

“The tradition of field days is at least as old as the land grant university system, which dates back to Abraham Lincoln,” said Nathan Slaton, assistant director of the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station. “However, each year, these field days showcase research that can help producers grow high-yielding crops efficiently and get the best performance from their livestock herds.”

• Feb. 27 – CLARKSVILLE – Fruit pruning workshop at the Fruit Research Station.
• April 20 – ALMA – Strawberry field day at the Vegetable Research Station. 
• April 21 – BATESVILLE – Livestock field at the Livestock and Forestry Station.
• May 21 – HOPE – Horticulture field day at the Southwest Research and Extension Station.
• July 23 – ROHWER – Row crops field day at Rohwer Research Station.
• Aug. 5 – KEISER – Row crops field day, Northeast Research and Extension Center.
• Aug. 7 – STUTTGART – Rice field day, Rice Research and Extension Center.
