FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The boundaries of artificial intelligence and machine are broadening daily, with researchers worldwide finding new ways to apply the tool in science.

Aranyak Goswami, a bioinformatics specialist with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, is one of them and was featured in a Diversity in Action Magazine article on how AI is being used in animal research, from conservation efforts to agriculture.

The article by Sonya Stinson highlights Goswami’s use of AI-driven data analytics to gain knowledge that can lead to the production of healthier farm animals like chickens, cows and pigs.

“He is developing a set of connected algorithms for use in several genetic sequencing and microbiome studies designed to improve livestock health and productivity,” Stinson writes. “Some of Goswami’s work focuses on the studying of specific viruses and bacteria, with the goal of advancing the development of more effective treatments.”

Goswami joined the Division of Agriculture in early 2024, jumping from human-focused medical research at Yale and Stanford universities to serve as an assistant professor for the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, the Division of Agriculture research arm.

His work boosts computation biology and bioinformatics research for the poultry science and animal science departments, as well as the Center for Agricultural Data Analytics.
