Nilda Roma-Burgos is a professor of weed physiology and molecular biology with 20 years of experience working in higher education. Her research program encompasses weed resistance to herbicides, rice and weedy rice genetics, weed management and herbicide options for specialty crops, and weed response to climate change.

“The weeds are grabbing certain traits from the crop that are beneficial to them, including herbicide resistance.”

The excitement of discovery is the driving force behind Burgos’ research. Weedy plants are constantly changing. Burgos aims to learn from the changing weeds to help develop better crops.
